Further Information

Guest access

You will have a key to the side door of Far View Cottage, which leads you directly into the hallway where the stairs to your room can be found. You have a fully equipped en-suite bathroom, with a bath and overhead shower. Should you have wet coats/boots there is a drying-room immediately to your right as you enter the building.

Interaction with guests

Katie will be on-hand most of the time, to answer questions or help in any way. She is a mum to two children under five, so there are only a few hours of the day when she won’t be up and about! If she is ever not available, you are welcome to contact her mobile, as she is rarely very far from home and always happy to help.

The Neighbourhood

The Ardnamurchan peninsula is generally considered to be one of the most remote and beautiful places in Europe. We have stunning views across the sea to the Isle of Mull, glorious, white, sandy beaches. Hills and mountains to explore. Incredible access to wildlife: eagles, dolphins, otters, deer, to name but a few.

The community is very small and friendly. We have a reasonably well-stocked local shop but you would be well advised to stock up on your personal essentials before arriving. The nearest shopping-town is Fort William, two hours drive East or via the ferry to Tobermory, a forty minute trip. There is no bank or cash machine. It is possible to withdraw money from the Post Office, but this is limited to its opening hours.

The Kilchoan Hotel offers cooked breakfasts from 8am until 9.30am and good evening meals. There is a friendly, relaxed bar, open to locals and visitors alike. It is advised that you book ahead during the busier season, to avoid disappointment. Tel: 01972 510200

The Community Centre is a valuable source of local information and has a tea-room, which serves breakfast rolls as well as a selection of sandwiches, soup and cakes.

Getting around

There is a bus service which runs to and from Fort William each day. It is possible to get here without a car!

The road down the peninsula is single track for forty-four miles.

Please be aware of traffic and use the lay-bys to allow faster vehicles to overtake. It can be a tricky drive but one of the most beautiful roads you are likely to negotiate. Relax and enjoy the scenery… Just as you think you must surely have missed the village, you will be about seven miles away! Keep going, we are right at the very end.

Recommended Activites
  • Visit Sanna Bay – a stunning, wild beach of white sand and on a sunny day, turquoise waters.
  • Ardnamurchan Lighthouse – the most Westerly point on the British mainland. Take a guided tour up the lighthouse itself and/ or enjoy coffee and cake in the cafe.
  • Take a trip with Staffa Tours to visit Fingal’s Cave and marine wildlife. The boat will collect passengers from Kilchoan Pier, 750m from Far View Cottage.
  • Sample the local whisky at the Ardnamurchan Distillery, Glenborrodale. A 25 minute drive East, from the village.

Other Things to Note

We have two cats. They are not allowed to access the guest areas and should not trouble you in any way. This may present a problem for anyone with a serious allergy however. We are a family friendly space, so we happily welcome families with children of all ages. Equally, my own children will be present in our home and you may see or hear them at times, but as your room has its own access, it is not necessary for you to share any of the family space and I would hope that the noise levels are in no way disturbing.

A travel cot, toys and books for children aged 0-6 years can be provided upon request.

Guests are invited to use the garden space, to the left side of the house. There is a bench and picnic table, offering you an opportunity to take in the views.
